NOMTN Announces 2009 Board of Directors

New Orleans, LA—The New Orleans Multicultural Tourism Network (NOMTN) recently finalized its board of directors for 2009. Members include community leaders as well as leaders in the tourism and hospitality industry.
"When it comes to promoting the city, we are blessed with a wealth of talent and experience in New Orleans, and that is reflected in our new board of directors," said Toni Rice, executive director of NOMTN.
The board is comprised of the following:
Chuck Morse – Chairman
Assistant Secretary, Louisiana Office of Tourism
As Assistant Secretary of the Louisiana Office of Tourism, Chuck Morse oversees the State’s domestic and international marketing initiatives. He sits on the boards of several tourism organizations including Travel South, Travel Industry Association of America/National Council of State Tourism Directors and the Southeast Tourism Society.
Ed Robinson – First Vice Chairman
Owner, L&R Security Services, Inc.
Ed joined Superdome Services and was indoctrinated into the security business. He now has more than a quarter-century of experience in facilities management and serves on several boards in New Orleans. He has a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Southern University.
Essence Harris – Second Vice Chairman
Prior to joining Entergy, Essence was convention sales manager for the New Orleans Multicultural Tourism Network. She serves on the boards the Louisiana Minority Business Council, Entergy Women of Color and the Mississippi Minority Business Alliance.
Gail Bailey Gray – Treasurer
Advertising and PR Specialist, Whitney Bank
Cheryl is responsible for the design, production and distribution of various customer communication tools. She manages directory advertising and branch merchandising and handles public relations support in community outreach efforts. She has a Bachelor of Science in business systems management from Southern University at New Orleans.
Naydja Bynum – Secretary
President, Historic Faubourg Tremé Association
Naydja is a small business owner, neighborhood restorer and community outreach leader. She is a board member of Women of the Storm and a past-president of the Preservation Resource Center and the Vieux Carré Property Owners Association.
Chimene Grant Connor – Past President/NOTMC Representative
Director of Advertising and Tourism Marketing, Audubon Nature Institute
Chimene supervises media planning and is responsible for the development and execution of Audubon's advertising campaigns. Active in her community, she has been affiliated with the Young Leadership Council, Habitat for Humanity New Orleans, Louisiana Travel Promotion Association (Second Vice Chair) and the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation. She is a graduate of Loyola University.

For 2009, the agency and its board will continue working to improve the post-Katrina image of New Orleans, partnering with other tourism promotion agencies to increase awareness of New Orleans as a viable and premier multicultural destination for leisure and group travel. NOMTN released a new marketing plan in 2008 to guide this effort, and then undertook the process of completing its board of directors.
"The board will play an important role in fulfilling our mission," said Rice. "We look forward to their insights and perspectives as we help New Orleans regain its place as a top multicultural destination."
